Sambata, 20 iulie 2019, de la ora 21:30, la Genk, pe “Luminus Arena”, formatia locala intalneste KV Mechelen, in cadrul Supercupei Belgiei.
Antrenata de Felice Mazzu, Genk a reusit in editia trecuta de campionat sa isi arate din nou suprematia si sa devanseze Club Brugge & Anderlecht. 52 de puncte au fost de ajuns pentru a se incorona campioana pentru a patra oara in istorie. Mai mult decat atat, a si fost pusa pe transferuri, recent l-a adus pe Ianis Hagi, pentru o suma care, cu bonusuri, ar putea ajunge 10 milioane de euro. Echipa s-a antrenat pentru inceperea sezonului si pentru debutul in cupele europene, reusind sa castige la pas toate meciurile de pregatire jucate. Astfel, in acest timp de meciuri amicale, a trecut cu 4-1 de Maccabi Tel Aviv si 3-0 de Lokomotiva Zagreb.
Surpriza sezonului 2018/2019, KV Mechelen a reusit sa ajunga in situatia asta dupa ce a castigat Cupa Belgiei. Ea a reusit sa faca asta din postura de participanta in Proximus League, cel de-al doilea esalon belgian. Desigur, nu era o echipa de pluton, dovada ca a si terminat pe primul loc si a castigat play-off-ul de promovare. Situatia este putin mai complicata in ceea ce o priveste, avand in vedere ca recent a fos acuzata de blat si ar putea sa i se retraga participarea in cupele europene. Cel putin asta a decis ieri (17.07.2019), Tribunalul belgian de arbitraj pentru sport.
Este o situatia foarte delicata pentru Mechelen, echipa care poate rasufla usurata ca a primit acceptul de a evolua in prima liga. Problemele de coruptie si financiare pe care le-a avut, au tras mult formatia in jos. Astfel, avand in vedere si statutul de echipa gazda, ma astept sa vad o mai mare determinare din partea KRC Genk, care sa inscrie de cel putin doua ori.
