Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will meet at Anfield to see which of them are struggling more at the moment, something their supporters certainly did not want to see.
Liverpool
Liverpool are, of course, significantly more successful than their opponents, but that does not change the fact that their place in both this season's and next season's UEFA Champions League is now in doubt. In the first leg of the round of 16 just played, Arne Slot's team once again fell into the same trap in Istanbul and failed to break down Galatasaray (0:1). They could at least have come away with a draw, but after a long review the referee decided that a Liverpool player had handled the ball before scoring. The hosts also slipped up in the previous Premier League round, conceding the decisive goal against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers (1:2) in the 94th minute.
Tottenham Hotspur
However, Liverpool's mistakes are nothing compared to Tottenham's defence in Madrid. In the first leg of their round-of-16 tie against Atlético Madrid, they were already 0:3 down by the 15th minute, and all three goals effectively came from their own errors. Antonin Kinsky, making his debut in the main phase of the UEFA Champions League and playing for the first time since October, committed two dreadful mistakes and was clearly devastated. Igor Tudor had to make an urgent change, replacing the shaken Czech with the experienced Guglielmo Vicario, but even the Italian could not prevent two further goals. For the second of those goals the left side of the defence was at fault.
Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
Carrying such a heavy burden of disappointment, Tottenham's players will struggle to cope with pressure from Liverpool and the home fans. Moreover, in their first league meeting the visitors showed neither resilience nor discipline in London, finished the match with nine men and left without any points (1:2). We expect goals again this time.
